US28 - National Voting Day
Voting should be a national holiday to expand access and give people less of an excuse to not vote.

Description
It's absurd that people have to decide between working an extra two hours (or however long it takes them to get from their area of work to their polling area) and deciding who is going to lead them and the country.

Voting is a privilege and if an individual does not have the initiative to excercise that privilege--shame on him/her. You can vote early, before work, after work, absentee ballot--what is the problem?

Get a mail in ballot if you can't make it to the polls. Stop pretending that voting is hard. If voting is that hard for you, I think probably you shouldn't vote anyway because you are stupid, lazy, or informed.

There is already an easy way to avoid traveling to a poll place, get a ballot in the mail. If you can't figure out how to do that, I'm sure you are too clueless to vote anyway.

One day out of the year, particularly one that falls on the same day every year, is not difficult to lose a piece of, particularly if one is a salaried employee. Further than that, polls are open legally from at least 8AM to 8PM, a 12 hour day, which is typically longer than the average work day.

Declaring a national holiday, particularly for something that is purely optional, is absurd. It would hurt small businesses more than anything else: They can't afford the lack of manpower.

Intelligence test for voting.

It appears that you may want an intelligence test for voting. The voting laws are being reviewed by the courts on the basis of how they "enhance" or "assist" people to vote, according to the reviews I have read. Your view appears against the courts.

Our discussion/poll at DailyKos. Everybody likes it. Internet voting might be an even more effective way to expand access.

Standing Laws (1 reply)

Nope. A 1-hr break sounds as effective if not more effective than a whole day off.
