Arguments
Every person in every state of this country has the legal right to self-defense with or without stand-your-ground. The problem is that the most people are taught to believe that the most effective self defense measures are violent.
As a martial artist, I blame martial artists who never learn or teach how to avoid violence. Many of them market themselves as self defense experts just because they know how to hurt someone in a special way for a special situation.
The fact of the matter is avoiding violence is the most effective form of self defense. If you can't avoid violence, escape from it; preferably to a well lit area with a lot of people/witnesses. Get other peoples attention by yelling "fire!" That's what the police suggest to anyone who is being attacked.
I'm running out of available characters but if you want to know more about avoiding violence, checkout nononsenseselfdefense.com/ or Facing Violence by Rory Miller

Counterarguments
Although we are up in arms of Mr. Martin's senseless death, it shouldnt be a rallying call to dispose of a logical law. Indeed, when properly applied, "stand your ground" makes sense. It should not be required for someone to run away from an assailant for fear of going to jail.
Blame the person, not the law. The average response time of a 911 call is over 20 minutes. In a dangerous situation, you don't have that much time. Running away is also dangerous, you'll just be pursued.
Someone who is attempting to hurt you is not going to be scared by that, and it's your life at risk. Properly defending yourself is not a crime, and if someone is coming at you with deadly force, you have the right to respond in kind.
