Description

States that require photo identification claim to do so to combat fraud, but studies have shown that there is very little polling place fraud. 19 states don't require voters to present any type of identification before voting.  Pennsylvania should change its law to conform with the laws of these states, in order to ensure that groups that are less likely to have photo identification (minorities, urban dwellers, the elderly) are still able to vote.

According to Pennsylvania’s Department of State and the Department of Transportation, as many as 758,000 people, about 9% of the state’s 8.2 million registered voters currently don’t have the identification that now will be required at the polling place.

State identification is free in the state of Pennsylvania, and can be obtained in one day. There is absolutely no reason to say it is a hardship on a single person, particularly if they are more than aware of what goes on long before Election Day.

One may claim there is very little fraud, but this would cut down on it completely with no harm done. There is no reason someone cannot get their picture taken.
