Arguments
Texting while driving is dangerous and distracting for people of all ages. Distracted drivers put themselves and everyone around them at risk. Banning texting will reduce the number of people in the United States who die in car accidents each year.
Counterarguments
There is a distracted driving law here in Alberta, Canada. It is pretty good and you can definitely notice the difference, the only problem is that in our judicial system there's not so much of a "innocent until proven guilty" thing, so if a cop says you were on your phone, you were on your phone, and you're going to get a $300 ticket.
Can I also not use the map function on my iPhone? I use that all the time to get where I'm going. I don't want to give cops more reasons to pull me over.

I see your point, especially because I use my Iphone for directions as well. However, texting while driving has already been banned in 37 states. It has been one of the leading causes of fatal accidents. Also, reviewing directions on your phone while driving can be risky and distracting too. I think people should use handless consoles to hold phones so that checking directions can be hands free.
