US45 - Eliminate For-Profit Prisons
A profit motive is a backwards incentive for incarceration facilities - the goal is fewer people in prison, not more
facebooktwitterShare on Google+
Description
Why are states outsourcing their prisons to private corporations?  That was a rhetorical question - because of corrupt politicians, greedy corporations, and snake oil salesmen.

The states could do it themselves, cheaper and better, without giving a cut to a morally bankrupt but cash rich corporation.  Cutting deals with states about what percentage of the prison must be full at all times flies in the face of our system of laws and makes a mockery of liberty and justice for all.

This is just a small part of the prison-industrial complex we have now that needs to be eliminated - according to Wikipedia:

At year-end 2007 the United States had less than 5% of the world's population and 23.4% of the world's prison and jail population (adult inmates).

End this practice now.

Anytime you privatize any service that the government normally provides, it will cost more because the corporation will inject a "profit margin" over and above their costs.

These corporations also 'pay' politicians with campaign contributions to enact laws that will 'feed' their business. As far as the prison industry goes ........ Our Detention is Their Business !!

It would truly depend on the type of prisoner, no? I certainly wouldn't want a bunch of thieves and murderers running loose.
