Idea #US464 - Overturn Roe v. Wade

Immediately save lives by effectively repealing Roe v. Wade

Argument

I recognize there are two lives involved: the mom and the unborn child. And I believe that people of good conscience have chosen different paths in this regard. But I am pro-life and will intend, if I'm president of the United States, to encourage pro-life policies. I don't actually make the decision the Supreme Court makes and so they'll have to make their own decision. But, for instance, I'll reverse the president's decision on using U.S. funds to pay for abortion outside this country. I don't think also the taxpayers here should have to pay for abortion in this country. Those things I think are consistent with my pro-life position. And I hope to appoint justices for the Supreme Court that will follow the law and the constitution. And it would be my preference that they reverse Roe V. Wade and therefore they return to the people and their elected representatives the decisions with regards to this important issue.

Idea #US2 - Abolish Death Penalty

Congress should abolish the death penalty.

Counterargument
The appropriate response of society to terrorism carried out around the world or within our borders is to apply the death penalty. The death penalty is also appropriate in the following cases:

  • Assassination of a law enforcement officer, judge, juror or prosecutor for the purpose of obstructing an ongoing criminal proceeding
  • Prolonged torture or multiple murders
  • Defendant has already been convicted of first-degree murder or who is serving a life sentence without parole

Idea #US490 - Medical Marijuana Ballots in 2012

Pass medical marijuana initiatives in AR, IL, MA, MO, NY, OH, and PA

Counterargument
Marijuana is the entry drug for people trying to get kids hooked on drugs. I don't want medicinal marijuana; there are synthetic forms of marijuana that are available for people who need it for prescription. Don't open the doorway to medicinal marijuana.

Counterargument

The entryway into our drug culture for our young people is marijuana. Marijuana is the starter drug. And the idea of medical marijuana is designed to help get marijuana out into the public marketplace and ultimately lead to the legalization of marijuana overall. And in my view, that's the wrong way to go. I know there are some on the Democratic side of the aisle that'd be happy to get in your campaign. But I'm opposed to it, and if you elect me president, you're not going to see legalized marijuana. I'm going to fight it tooth and nail.

Idea #US82 - End Corporate Personhood

Amend the constitution to say that corporations are not people

Counterargument
Corporations are people, my friend… of course they are. Everything corporations earn ultimately goes to the people. Where do you think it goes? Whose pockets? Whose pockets? People's pockets. Human beings, my friend.

Idea #US8 - Legalize It

Legalize marijuana. Current illegality is a waste of resources.

Idea #US106 - Close the hedge fund manager tax loophole

Stop allowing hedge fund managers to treat their income as capital gains.

Counterargument

With regard to carried interest associated with venture capital, real estate, private equity, I do not believe in raising taxes. It is a capital gain because those individuals do make an investment. I would treat capital gains as capital gains instead of trying to re-categorize them as normal income.
